i know that taking antibiotics makes your birthcontrol less effective, but i was wondering if anyone knew exactly how much it effects it? is it barely effective or does it make it basically non-exsistant? i get UTIs a lot and have to take antibiotics for them everytime.
i'm on the ortho-evra patch and i always use a condom, but should i be worried if the condom were to break or something?

It depends on which antibiotic you are using. Some antibiotics greatly alter the liver metabolism and would interfere with birth control. Other antibiotics really have no effect on birth control because they are not metabolized by the liver. You should ask the pharmacist about the particular antibiotic you are taking and whether or not it would interfere. It is not "all antibiotics" but rather only "certain antibiotics"

hum the patch ! i would one ! stop use the patch and change to a more affective pill if you are worried about it causing u getting pregnant ! change to the ring if you are worried about forgetting to take it ! the sit below explains ! as for the UTIs ! cranberry juice lol alot of it ! but you should know that!! W ell good luck ! and what the first women said

" ortho evra is a serious risk! it can cause cancers and becoming unfertile! be careful! "
some Docs will say its fine some will not recommend it to there dog ! but its all up to you at the end of the day !

It lowers the effectiveness substantially.
Ortho evra is not the best thing from what I have heard. If you have condoms that break, maybe it's time for some bigger ones.
One way to avoid the UTIs is the AZO pills from the drug store. They have cranberry pills that you can take on a daily basis, and it also has other herbs to prevent them. They are great.
P.S. Pee after sex! wash out all that bacteria.

Obviously this should be a question for your pharmacist. Anytime you "know" that you are less protected, you should take increased measures. If you are concerned about the stability of the condom then perhaps you should use a back up method as well (i.e sponge, spermicide, etc). Again, I would suggest talking with your doctor and/or pharmacist before making any decisions.
