It seems that one of the big issues is the "Liberals want to take my money and give it to people who are too lazy to work."

My question is, when Conservatives held the White House and the majority in Congress, why didn't they do anything about it.

That is one of the reasons why you voted for them right?

Getting rid of welfare has always been a nonsense policy...used more to rally the troops than to address an issue. 'Welfare' exists in every time and culture. It's part of the human imperitive....which is why the concept is embedded in every religion and political regime. The reasons are moral, social, political and economic. 'Getting rid' of appropriate welfare is like getting rid of an arm or leg.....everything is more difficult and nothing will work as well as it did. 'Getting rid' of welfare 'cheating' is a matter of law enforcment.....it's as doable as building the border fence....but getting 'rid of welfare' is just a slogan as the problems of poverty will remain.

An answerer said that she was a conservative that supports welfare for a single mother because she has children and can't work. BULL. They are just TOO LAZY to work.

I am a social liberal/ fiscal conservative who does not supprt welfare for a single mother because she has children. I worked and had children, they can work! I will gladly pay for childcare. But not one penny that allows them to sit home all day and get fatter. I refuse to support a system that rewards women for conceiving children outside of marriage and prepetuating poverty. If you have children you support them or give them to someone who can.

Because the true conservatives have little voice in the GOP. People are too hooked on the teat of government, and do not care that the principles of the Constitution have been violated and raped in the name of liberalism and welfare.

Because they are politicians, they are too beholden to their own jobs to do what is right for the country. Their abysmal failure to reform Social Security is evidence that they lack the courage to tackle the hard problems.

It can never happen as long as the government doesn't just pull the rug out from under the people on it. The government wants everyone to step off the rug, but some can't, or won't get off. So welfare continues, and always will.

Conservatives did do something about it, but they didnt do what you expected. Instead of getting rid of it and just tossing those presently in that system out, they gave a window of a few years to get themselves out.

On a side note, were illegals deported, there might be job openings for them if they were having trouble finding work...

I am a conservative and I support welfare for those who really need it. I think we need a system to provide for children. We should not let the children suffer. I support welfare for a single mom with young children, who cannot find work because she has to take care of her children. I think welfare reform is a good thing and needs to be enforced in every state.

Because we are not against helping people...we are against broadening the arena of abuse. We are against turning the country into one big welfare case. Welfare needs some serious reform, it does not need extended and expanded. We are also against being forced to support a bigger more corrupt failing system.

There are many people out there that need help.. There is also a great number milking the system... It is hard to legislate this problem for either party..

Cons are the recipients of welfare. They should be thanking Dems for actually supporting the programs that help support Cons and their broods.
