A light bulb was screwed into the socket too tightly and it broke when it was being taken out. I have heard that a half a raw potato would work, but I am not sure if that is true. What do you suggest to solve this problem...

First, be sure that the power to that light socket is turned off at the breaker. VERY IMPORTANT

I have heard that using half a potato works and you could try that if you want. Basically, you cut a potato in half and press it firmly onto the broken bit and turn until it comes out of the socket.

But a less messy, and more depandable, solution would be to use a pair of needle nosed pliers. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF. Grab the edge of the metal part of the base that is left behind in the socket. Gently use the pliers to unscrew the base and remove it.

Make sure you turn off the circuit breaker for the light so you don't get electrocuted. A raw potato does work. Just push it in the socket and turn to unscrew the broken bulb. Good luck!

Half a raw potato will work. Just make sure the switch is turned off first, or you'll get a shock! Stab the remaining part of the bulb with the potato and turn.

Stick a potato in there and turn or use a needle nose pliers and push the points about a half inch apart into the glass bottom and turn. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF FOR BOTH APPROACHES.

Turn the power off...cut the end off an apple. push the apple onto the broken glass to grab whats left of the bulb. Then twist the apple counter clockwise

After turning off the power to the socket, you can use a potato or even a large carrot (less juice and more "handle")

even a large, dry sponge will work if it's big enough to crowd into the opening of the bulb. Don't use a wet one even if power is off...Water could still be present after turning power back on.

good luck
