Some people get mad because she is helping people in other countries or mostly the African continent. I think it's dumb when some U.S. people get mad at her and say "we need help here" or whatever, when our type of "poor" is no where close to the type of "poor" in Africa. It really gets on my nerves when the African American people get mad at Oprah. They say that she needs to help her people, well guess what...SHE IS! The African Americans here have it good, if they are poor it's because they are too lazy to get a job and they always depend on Welfare too much. African Americans have a lot of choices for help, there is nothing for the real Africans in Africa to get help from. I saw an episode of Oprah where she was talking about these kids who are sold by their parents to go fish for other people. They work almost all day with only one meal. Anways, my question is, what is your point on getting mad at Oprah for helping other people from another land, or what is your opinion?

I think Oprah and many other celebrities have the full realization that no matter how badly people of any colour are doing here in the states, at least they don't have to worry about seeing their loved ones hacked to death by government condoned militias or worry about being raped on a regular basis as the girls in her school did and very possibly contracting HIV as a result.
For all the inequality between men and women's pay scales in the US, at least we can still get a job, we can still get a free education (the quality of which is debatable) but over there, if you can't afford to buy a stupid uniform, they won't let you into class. There are social services available here (again, the quality of which is debatable) but there are at least options...options that most Africans don't have.
So yes, there are plenty of people here who have terrible problems...but nowhere near the scale of Africa, India and hundreds of other countries.
I get mad at Oprah when she has so many shows dedicated to celebrity topics, fashion and beauty and other socially irrelevant tripe. She doesn't seem to be paying too much attention to hunting down pedophiles anymore either now that it's dropped out of the news.

While Oprah does continually help others through many charitable organizations, she seems to concentrate on areas on the African continent. Her detractors actually do not know, or totally discount her charitable work in the United States. There is no general African-American criticism of Oprah. She is criticized by some. This is no basis for a generalized statement. This is not a basis for comments like any people being poor because they are lazy and depend on welfare too much. These notions are as narrow as the criticisms of Oprah.

I don't know why they are so upset. Its HER money to do with as she sees fit.
I really hate to say it this way, but African Americans are always ticked off about something. Even if Barack Obama is elected president, they'll still be ticked off. I've heard blacks say they will not vote for him because he's not black enough. What the heck does that mean? I've also heard the African American community say the same about Oprah, that she's not black enough.
I have no idea what to think about that. Seems to me that African Americans should be proud of people like Obama, Oprah and others.
By the way, I'm voting for Obama!

I think what Oprah did was a great thing. I don't care if she went to China to open up another school. I think the fact that she is helping people that are less fortunate is one of the best things to do. People will find anything to complain about. They completely disregard the wonderful things Oprah actually does in the US as well.
By the way I have heard some of just about every race complain, I don't know why you have singled out black folk

i've got heard this question asked approximately women. Why have not women stepped forward the way men have? I think of after centuries of 2d type citizenship, it might take awhile to capture up. same applies to blacks. Jim Crow replaced into in basic terms 40 years in the past. supply us it gradual. we are going to get there. Obama's not black btw.

Would you mind inserting the word "some" into your question because not ALL African Americans are against what she's doing. I personally think that she's giving help where help is not only most needed but most appreciated.

Africans aren't her people. Americans are. They're who allow her to go to Africa and spend money.
There are thousands of homeless kids, adults and animals in the US. What makes African homeless all the more deserving of help? She by-passing those in her own country.
Same with Angelina. I'm glad she adopted those kids.. but what about all the need-to-be-adopted kids in America?
