"He released the identity of a covert CIA agent, thus putting our country at risk, and then lied to a grand jury about it."

Mild_irratant, lying again, he "Scooter" did not release the id of any covert agent, valerie plame was not COVERT, stop lying and check facts, prove first that plame was covert, besides the fact it was not scooter he released anything about plame, someone else did accidentaly and fitzpatrick knows it, to continue to persecute scooter is just petty patisan politics and a disgrace. Scooter libby did less that Bill Clinton and Clinton got away with it. Clinton should be in jail not scooter.

Above two persons need to check facts Scooter did nothing treasonable, he forgot a meeting,

Traitor? Libby was questioned about a conversation that he had a year ago. The answer he gave was incorrect. So he was indicted and convicted for lying because he could not remember the exact details. Meanwhile the real leaker, Richard Armitage, confessed. Fitzgerald, who already spent over a $million in this investigation, had to justify his work and Libby was the scapegoat.

Question: If I asked what you said in a conversation that happened a year ago, could you remember exactly what was said?

And by the way, Plame came in from the cold in 1995 when she was outed by the Russians. Since 1997 she has been in a 9 to 5 job at Langely while married to Joe Wilson. She's not exactly covert. Also the statute of limitations for covertness had expired when Bob Novak wrote that she worked for the CIA. Fitzgerald had no case and had to justiy his existence.

Gosh, as I read some your answerers, it's amazing how many are totally WRONG. Scooter was convicted of lying about WHO released the information on Valerie Pflame's CIA status. He did NOT release her name. In fact, the federal prosecutor who went after him ALREADY KNEW who released the information...Richard Armitage. And ALSO in fact, the person who wrote the guidelines for when to try someone for revealing the identity of covert agents said publicly and frequently, that Pflame did not meet the criteria as being a covert agent. So, the "crime" for which Libby was convicted of lying about, never occurred in the first place.

Scooter Libby was convicted of lying to a prosecutor in a politically-motivated show trial.

Valire Plame was neither covert nor an agent. She was nothing more than a socialite who used political connections so she could play 'spy' without actually having to do anything.

He committed high treason by revealing the identity of an undercover foreign agent, putting her life and the lives of everyone she worked with (and US security) in peril. He is also basically taking the fall for a calculated ruse by high-level government officials (ie, the vice president) to strong-arm the undercover agent's husband for whistle blowing and not playing along with a really big lie that was used as an excuse to invade Iraq.
