half of the sportscasters are doggin her out b/c it was "nothing but a cramp" (it was actually a SPASM-INDUCED CALF STRAIN!!!! very painful!!!!!) and saying that she was just acting and they don't understand why she had it wrapped and yada yada yada. and still others are blowing it off and talking like her career is already over.
there are some who are actually concerned with serena's injury (at least it seems like it) and are actually trying to understand what she's going through.
someone please help me understand what's wrong with these people!!

i dont think her injury or the way she acted towards it was fake at all. i also believe the espn n nbc commentators handled they situation well. i didnt hear n e one talkin negitive about her however to whom ever said that she only faked the injury because she was down. if you paid n e attention to the score when she was UP 4-5 she was complainin about her calf to the trainer b4 the start of the game n which she went down on. i also fell that Hantuchova showed gr8 sportsmenship throughout the own match n gives her her kudos lol.

McEnroe questioned the severity of her injury after she was seen leaping off the court after she missed a ball--right before she smashed the racket. Her muscle did look very tight, which would most likely indicate a cramp. Richard Williams said this morning that's she got a small tear in her calf, and the doctor advised her not to play anymore.
To answer the last part of your question though- "What's wrong with these people?" All the sportscasters know Serena has a dramatic flair and she can be a bit indulgent when it comes to showing emotion on court... this situation is a bit like the boy who cried wolf. Serena has cited so many injuries in the past--some real, others just excuses not to play--that she's created an environment where people don't trust her word. It's unfortunate for Serena, because even when she has a real injury, most people are inclined to disbelieve her.

Where does Hantuchova fit into all of the hype and hand-ringing over Serena?
It is bad enough having your game constantly interrupted by the rain but when you play Serena you are also going to have to put up with dramatic interruptions whenever her game is down and yours is up.
I am sure Serena sustained a painful cramp. But she had been playing other little delaying tricks and dramatisations before that happened.
And to answer your question,no ,frankly, all the sportscasters I heard played up Serena's injury and totally ignored Hantuchova, her merits, her game .etc etc

I haven't been watching Wimbledon, but I did see McEnroe on TV last night talking about her injury and he deemed her effort to be heroic.
On the downside, Serena looked a bit heavy to me in the clips they showed. Is that an illusion or do you think she's a little out of shape? I'll check back for your reply later.

Unless you have been an athlete yourself you might not understand how injuries work. It might seem simple but believe me if not diagnose properly could ruin your career. These people talking are people who have never played any sports in their entire live and are talking like fools. No one really listens to them anyway. I love Serena she has such a fighting spirit. If she wants to win she will suffer it out in pain to accomplish her goal and many of us need to respect her for that and use her as example in our everyday life. She is a winner in my book after last night.

Well, I could see she was in pain for the end of the second set, but I think she was just playing up to the crowd and faking most of it for the third set. I don't think her career will be over for a while. As for what happened to her I can relate since I've had that happen to me twice in both legs.

WHAT CHANNEL ARE YOU WATCHING? I'm upset that they bought in to the theatrics and totally dissed poor Hantuchova!! All I hear is what a champion Serena is and a ton of sympathy about her being hurt... I think she was playing it up BIG... but I sure as HECK didn't hear any reporter on any channel... OR YAHOO... say that it was a fake!

Where have you been all your life? They are REPORTERS. If there is nothing real big going on, they create some kind of controversy so they can spend the next week talking about it.

Sportscasters do that, they make stories up or carry them on.
