if you're talking about nighttime "dark" and daytime "light" then there's definitely no negative attachment to the word dark. but if you're talking of the other meaning of dark, ie, evil and all things unholy, then i definitely dont need that kind of dark as you suppose is the case.

While you wonder why do we need the dark in our everpresent desire for light you may need to think on this. Without the darkness there would be no realization of light and visa versa. If we didn't have the darkness we wouldn't desire light, and sometimes for many people the darkness also allows a comfort or sense of security that may not be found in the light. Without one the other cannot and will not exist.

Why yearn for the light if there's no darkness? IF there's no darkness, then everything is light, so no yearn is necessary. Why dark then? So we can yearn? What is yearn? A burning desire? Why do we desire light? And it goes on and on until you find it...or it finds you...

Good luck!

The dark makes the light special. If there was no dark, there would only be light, and we wouldn't yearn for it.

We cannot see our light if there is only light.
We can see our light because of the darkness.

If there was no night, then would we have any idea of what a day is?

The manifest world is a dualistic context in which to discover oneness.
You have to leave the garden of Eden to understand what you had. Really, we never leave, the seperation is illusion, ignorance, sin.

Why spend all your life learning about rules and revel every now and then in breaking them? I think this is the eternal yin yang question. If we weren't multi-hued, we would need light constantly. Since we aren't, there are times you need darkness or shades of gray to blend into.
