frats and sororities are supposed to be a way to network, it's a great way to meet ppl that you probably wouldn't have met in a normal situation. Though some do fit the stereotype perfectly (partying, drinking and sex) there are also honor societies which are greek and its a good way to find more people that are interested in the same things as you. I plan on pledging a sorority next spring and I can't wait! most of my closest friends are in either a frat or sorority and they are the most wonderful, loyal people i have ever met!

and it's true, you'll always have someone to chill with!

Fraternities and sororities are basically socioal groups. They are also contacts that carry on through life after college. Many businesses are created and personelled through social organizations like frats and sororiries.

Many of the girls in sororities that I know like the idea of having a group of girls that they can always be affiliated with. They always can have something to do, and if one girl makes them mad, they have a ton of others to choose from! Also, some arrogant people think higher of those in sororities and fraternities. It wasn't for me, but I love the girls I know who are in them (most, at least).

Me too. I never wanted anything to do with them. These are people who were either programed by their parents to go to this college & join this frat, or they're so insecure about themselves they'll join any group which will accept them. Groucho Marx said, (I'm paraphrasing) "I wouldn't want to join any club that would have me for a member."

So go out with your friends and have your own party. My daughter is now in her 7th year of university, having started a PhD and considers the whole Greek life thing a waste of time. And she never had any trouble finding plenty of parties to go to.

It seemed stupid to me too. I just went to school to learn. Although, I can see why some people join it just wasn't for me.

It's pointless, yes. It's also cliche. The past generations could get away with it, but now it's just pointless.
