The loop in the rope is called a noose. The structure the rope is attached to is called the gallows.

the knotted part of the rope that goes over the victims head is called the noose, but the wooden structure that looks like an upside down "L" that is used in the game hangman is called the scaffold. In a real hanging situation it would be constructed of wood and usually would have a trap door under the feet of the victim.
