I vote Republican because they let us gun owners have our freedom. The Democrats are scared by guns, so I don't support them. If the government tried to take my gun, I would never give it up.

Gun control laws are designed to take the power of an individual away. They do little for crime in one way or another. Criminals will find whatever weapon is available to them whether they have to steal it or purchase it. The average citizen is who gets screwed. The problem with the debate on guns is that assault weapons get thrown in the mix. Its hard to justify owning a fully auto H&K MP5 with laser sights to fight off a burglar when a smaller handgun would do. We should probably do what the Swiss do. Everyone has a gun at home its the law. Every man is in the militia. That's because they have no standing army but a militia just like our constitution talks about. Nobody invades Switzerland because everyone is armed. The Swiss govt also doesn't mess with its citizens either. There are a lot of sides to this argument, unfortunately they all don't play together too well especially if you've had a small child that you care about hit by some piece of garbage's stray bullet.

If that is the sole reason you vote Republican, then that is your choice. Not all Democrats are afraid of guns, just as not all Republicans are for guns.

My only issue with gun control laws or laws of any sort, is that 95% of those affected will be law abiding citizens and the laws will only be enforced 30% of the time...or 2% if you want to talk about immigration.

Edit:This country is obsessed with legislation. If the laws already in place were enforced, we would have to create new legislation to fix the legislation that was supposed to fix some problem we cant remember being a problem.

If by "gun control laws" you mean laws which ban or restrict the acquisition, possession, or carry of guns by law-abiding individuals, then such laws are totally invalid and unethical.

Even before perusing the US Constitution, there is a natural right to individual defense of self or others which is not dependent upon any document written by man. Weaponry, being integral to defense, is a necessary part of this natural right. The beasts of the field bear fangs and claws. Being endowed more with brains and less with brawn, man makes the tools for his defense and bears those.

Now, turning to the US Constitution, the very first thing to note is that the rights in the Bill of Rights aren’t a list of all of your rights you are entitled to and you have no more than that. Quite the contrary. The Bill of Rights simply affirms and discusses some of your innumerable rights, but you still retain all of the rest of your innumerable individual rights nonetheless. Amendment IX clarifies that distinctly: “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.” You have a natural right to individual defense of self or others and the tools of necessity for it. You retain it. It is not denied or disparaged. So affirms the Constitution of the US.

The Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments provide that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. While liberty and property that are taken illegally (without due process of law) may be regained by means other than physical individual defense, the thing that many times protects life from being illegally deprived, by criminals or otherwise, is physical individual defense. This amendment affirms that my life may only be taken legally. Therefore, I have the right to defend my life from illegal attempts to deprive me of it, with such tools as are necessary for such defense.

The Second Amendment affirms the individual right to keep and bear arms. It is the second amendment among ten amendments concerning individual rights, commonly referred to en masse as “The Bill of Rights”. The phrase “the people” in it means the same thing as “the people” means in the First, Fourth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments: individual citizens. In fact, the Tenth Amendment distinctly references the federal, collective, and individual entities as “the United States”, “the states”, and “the people”.

I'm a Democrat. I grew up shooting. My Dad was an NRA member. Guns don't scare me in the least unless someone points a loaded one at me.
Your grand generalization that "Democrats are scared by guns, so I don't support them" is a false conclusion.
As to what I think about gun control- you probably won't like it. But read on! There are surprises here. Citizens in the US are very rarely confronted by guns. Muggings, yes - 99% of the time, they just want money and they run. According to a Detective friend who's beat is violent crime, gun violence is almost always criminals shooting criminals. Citizens don't shoot each other- they just get in a fist fight. So carry a small baton like I do. I've whipped it out once and let me tell you- the fight was over before it began and the other guy made tracks. No harm done to either party.
As far as gun control is concerned, we need to enact laws to limit the metal out there now. The arguement that limiting gun sales is pointless because so many guns are alread out there and that this nulls the control of guns is also false. You have to make a START. It will take time to clean up the arsenal out there. After a while, it will be harder and harder to find deadly weapons- and guess what? Gun crimes will fall dramatically.
The notions of a civil society and of a gun- armed citizenry are contradictory.

Gun control laws are like immigration laws. If we enforce the ones we have there won't be any problems. No matter what laws are written criminals and psycho's will still be able to get guns, so the best thing to do is to allow law-biding citizens the option of defending their families and property with firearms.

I'm a liberal independant and although I don't OWN guns, I enjoy heading out to the shooting range for some target practice every now and then with a rifle. I'm a pretty good marksman if I do say so myself. Anyhow, as far as what I think of gun control laws, if you have less guns on the market, there is less gun crime. It really is that simple.

I believe that if you can legally own a gun, you should be allowed to carry it as well.

If I purchased a firearm and went through the background checks already, why should I have to wait another 10 days before purchasing another?

Blaming a gun for crime is like blaming a pen for misspellings. Enforce the laws on the books already before making more.

If guns are made illegal, I'm going to become a criminal.

The Kennedy's have killed more people with their cars than I have with any of my 9 guns. Why can they still buy cars?

I'm liberal and I own an arsenal.......I support gun laws that require registration and training for safe gun use. I support any gun control laws that work to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, the mentally ill and children.

Gun owning Democrat here.. just an FYI... and I think moderate gun control laws are needed.. felons not being able to walk into a store and buy a gun is a good thing in my book.. and last I checked no one needed a howitzer on the back of their jeep. So logical gun control laws are perfectly fine with me.
