My father is obcessed with the Red Sox (just like many New Englanders). Growing up I've always wanted the Red Sox to win just because it would keep my father & brother happy. Recently I've started watching games with him and asking all sorts of questions about baseball rules, history, logistics, etc. He loves answering them.
I think it would be fun to confuse him by having an intelligent conversation about some aspect of the Red Sox that I would normally have no clue about. Facts, history...whatever you can think of. Anything that you think would work would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Great! Could anyone add more details? I want to be able to hold an entire conversation about it.

A few quick ideas...
One name you could mention is Carroll Hardy. He is the only player to ever pinch hit for Ted Williams. He did so when Williams fouled a ball off his foot during an at bat and had to leave the game.
The Red Sox hold the record for most runs in a single inning. They scored 17 in an inning against the Tigers in 1953.
They won the first World Series, in 1903 by beating the Pirates.
The bullpen area at Fenway was once known as "Williamsburg" because of Ted Williams' propensity to hit home runs there.
Here is a link to the team history section at redsox.com. You can get many more tidbits there.

I think a good discussion to have is just how great Manny Ramirez is. He has been the most feared hitter in the A.L. for 10 years, and by proxy has made the Red Sox and specifically the people who bat around him exponentially better.
Nomar used to compete for batting titles when in front of Manny, and hasn't done much of anything since.
David Ortiz was a decent player, but no where near the incredible player he is now when he played for the Twins. It has been said that almost all of the big-time hits he's had were the direct cause of the opposing pitcher not wanting to face Manny. They don't want to walk the guy in front of him, and if there's two outs they'd Rather not face him at all, so pitchers give the hitters in front of him incredible opportunities.
I think that's one of the more intriguing discussions about the Red Sox today, because many people will vehemently deny this is the case. Especially die-hard Red Sox fans who love to give credit to Papi for getting the big hits as much as they love going crazy over Manny being Manny.

Just for some quick facts, here's 8 career homerun leaders with the sox:
Ted Williams 521
Carl Yastrzemski 452
Jim Rice382
Dwight Evans 379
Mo Vaughn 230
Bobby Doerr 223
Jimmie Foxx 222
Rico Petrocelli 210
That's a decent rundown of some of the best hitters to ever play for the sox.
Note: Babe Ruth isn't on that list because when he played for the red sox, he was an All-Star starting pitcher who could win 20 or more games but still hit over .300. His hitting exploits were mostly on the Yankees.
Tell him Jim Rice belongs in the Hall of Fame and it's bogus that they're keeping him out.

Ted Williams hit the the longest HR in Fenway Park history. The seat where that ball landed in the right field bleachers is now the ONLY read set in Fenway.
I'm not a Red Sox fan, but I know that, I actually bought tickets to a Red Sox vs Angels game on E-bay two years ago just go to see Fenway, and my seat happened to be that one, I was amazed!!

Ask him what was the Williams "shift" strategy used in the 1946 World Series.
What article of clothing was Bill Buckner wearing in game 6 of the 1986 world series that was from a past team Buckner once played for.

Tell him Bucky Dent is your hero and you can't understand why there is no statue of him at Fenway.
Things will get interesting from there.
