Putin still has ties to the old Communist regime and Communist leanings. This is a fact. He is actually chomping at the bit to have a Cold War with the U.S. again.

Whether he is right or wrong, it seems a little rich coming from a man who has assasinated every journalist who dared to speak out against him; most recently and cruely by radiation positioning a dissident in Britain..
