When you call, tell them that you wish to remain anonymous, and they won't say anything to your neighbor when they come to check things out. One thing to consider, are you on good terms with these neighbors, or do you have some bad history between each other? The only reason I am asking this is because if you already have some bad blood there, they will probably suspect you from the beginning; I have neighbors like that. However, don't let that stop you. If the dog is being neglected/abused, you need to report them so the dog can get away from them and get a decent home. Good luck! It's a hard thing to do sometimes!

i have fairly new neighbors who have dogs that were out of the fence CONSTANTLY! everyone in the neighborhood complained. the dogs chased kids, made it impossible to be in your own yard. i got to where i was calling daily, on weekends i'd call several times a day if necessary. I never saw the animal control there, but my husband did one day. I finally got the city managers thru e-mail and i made an official complaint. now the dogs are penned up and i have never seen them out since. i wondered what it was going to take for something to happen - was a kid going to have to be mauled or worse - killed?! I love dogs. i have 2 who have never been out of my fence. ok, sorry - long story. but yes it can be anonymous.

Yes. I knew they knew who I was since they obviously have caller ID so I just asked them to not tell the dog owners who had reported them. I said I didn't want them to retaliate and I didn't want bad blood between neighbors - I was just concerned about their dog. The police understood this and said they wouldn't involve me at all. They aren't stupid - they know about retaliation and such. Trust me - you can do the right thing and not suffer for it. Make the call, hon.

Yes it is possible. Just call them and don't give your name...hence, anonymous. As a followup...is it possible to ask a common sense question and expect to not get a snotty answer. No. No it is not.
