Apparently there is a reason why the Good is Good, the Bad is Bad and the Ugly is Ugly in that movie. and my friend said that's the question the director wanted people to answer at the end of the movie. it's suppose to be very subjective too. I can't answer it, anyone else?

tuco's greed makes him ugly, that's what i got so far. i know the movie spells it out for you who is good, who is bad, and who is ugly. but the reason why they are the good, bad or ugly is suppose to be very concrete, and objective (not subject, sorry).

Maybe the director tried to show there was goodness, badness, and ugliness in all of us, and even the best of the lot couldn't be considered "good".

Plot Overview
The film tells the story of three men who pursue, often at the expense of others, information about the location of a buried treasure of coins. The first character introduced in the movie is Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez (the Ugly) - called Tuco - (Eli Wallach), who has a bounty on his head for numerous crimes. Tuco has a partnership with Blondie (The Good, played by Clint Eastwood) in which the latter turns him in for the reward money which the two then split after Blondie saves Tuco from hanging at the last moment. Meanwhile, a third character called Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef, playing the Bad) has learned of a hidden trunk of gold owned by a Confederate soldier named Bill Carson. He sets off to find the gold.

Good is love, family, friends, happiness, good times fun, holidays etc - Bad is when you loss someone you love or when you just give up on life - Ugly is a nasty word I don't believe that there is really anything in this world that is ugly.Only disappointed & very sad poeple use that word.

The "Good" I get. The main difference between the "Bad" and the "Ugly" I can only figure is Bad was a lot smarter than the Ugly....and the Ugly was pretty bad anyway.
Take Bad, add stupidity...and you get Ugly.

The thing is, if you have seen all the Westerns or read the books, the three knew each other to some degree. Their priorities changed later on. So there is very little to differentiate between them. Just see the movie.

I think the director wanted to show that there is good, bad,&ugly inside of us,he wanted to show that human nature is like that.

The terms are only relative in this film. Clint is not so good, except in comparison to Lee and Eli. They are all crooks, but Lee is worst. Lee is not so handsome, but he looks much better than Eli.
