What do you recommend for a palm pilot or other electronic device for my father? He would use it for what he calls "data entry": contacts, reminders, his schedule... He mentioned Blackberry. Any input? Thanks!

Blackberry is an expensive option for fairly simple requirements, Does he need wireless access to his email? If not, then he probably doesn't need a Blackberry. I have a refurbished Palm Zire 31 that I bought for about $40 (Canadian) at XS Cargo. It stores contacts, reminders, tasks (to do list), memos, and it has a calendar. I synchronize it daily with Outlook to keep it up to date. It will also store and display photographs and it stores and plays music. There are hundreds of after-market software products available for Palm devices.

It depends on how much you want to do or spend.

Blackberrys: high end, but very functional. Software is somewhat proprietary.

Pocket PCs (Windows Mobile 5 or 6): Basically a "mini" PC and many are phones (like the Cingular/ATT 8525). Good 3rd party support for software.

Smartphone (stripped down Pocket PCs): No touchscreen usually and some functionality is a bit limited. Treos are considered Smartphones. Good 3rd party support for software.

Palms (TX, Zire72): These are JUST PDAs but there is a great many 3rd party apps out there.

I would suggest joining the Palm TX group here on Yahoo. I've signed up a month ago and it has been a great aid in finding answers regarding the Palm TX.
