Hello,
Does anyone know how can you kill mold (it is not toxic black mold) in your basement/attic? I have heard that bleach will not kill it, rather just die it a lighter color so that you cannot see it. Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I know there's mold remediation places out there, but we wanted to try to do it ourselves, first. The mold in the basement is not up to the first floor or the rafters, just on the cement wall.

Thanks!

If you wash the wall with TSP, sold at home centers then spray with bleach to slow return is fairly good approach.

the bleach thing isn't totally true. Get some DampRid mold blocker, depending on where the mold is will determind if you can kill it or not, because if it is a common area that mold will always grow, you will be fighting a loosing battle, but this is your best bet for controling it. Before you use the DampRid, get bleach and scrub the area down. makes sure it is really good a dry then spray the DampRid Mold Blocker on it to protect it. Follow directions on the container or repeat the process according to your own needs of mold growth. Also DampRid sells these small buckets with cristals in it that soak up moisture and when the cristals are gone, dump it out and put new ones in it, You can get most DampRid products at walmart or a grocery store, but the DampRid Blocker wasn't in stock all winter were I live so I had to order it online, I did a search and found it on a home product website. It works so good I bought a whole case. I will not use anything else, this did a great job.

I would suggest getting a dehumidifier in the basement to reduce the humidity that mold needs to grow.

Contact a home improvement store, that have products that will remove the mold and help prevent the return.

Good luck
