I think what you are refering to is the year that the Baby Boomers retire. All of the Baby Boomers born in 1946 will be sixty-five in 2011 and quite a few will retire.
This mass retirement will mean a new age for the younger generation, since they will be taking over the workforce and adjusting it to match their values.
I believe that this will be a very positive adjustment, since the selfishness and greed of the Baby Boomers will finally pass out of main stream society.
Take care,
Troy

Both the Mayan and Ancient Egyptian calanders run out in 2012.
Both ancient civilisations calenders are very accurate in where the stars would be.
These cultures invented these calender about 3000b.c so to forcast 5000 years into the future is something fenominal in its self.
Also the questions are raised about how did they know about stars and constellations etc that you cant see with the naked eye???
Does this mean that ancient civs weren't as primitive as we think they were?
and why if you could predict they lay of the stars for 5000yrs would you not keep going unless it reached an end?

Nostradamus predicted that our world would end in 2012. He has made some true predictions. But I dont believe the world is ending anytime soon (I hope not.) and if it does there is nothing we can do about it.

2012, some time in December, the Mayan Calendar ends. It has something to do with their astrology. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

The Mayan Calendar ends in 2012...but, your calendar ends on December 31st, and you don't think the world ends then, do you?
