p.s. im looking for realistic answers, preferably with experience. 2 mechanics have told me that it is very unlikely that it will fall off and i should be ok, but just looking for other opinions.

your bearing going out can cause great problems if your car is front wheel drive.you would probably be ok for two hundred miles.if you begin to hear a loud rubbing noise or suddenly develope a wobble in the wheel then the bearing needs to be replaced.i had this problem once and drove my car for two weeks before fixing the bearing.just watch for the formentioned signs.and it is highly unlikely your wheel will fall off.but i would be extra attentative to these signs.

I,d be replacing it if the bearing fails completely there is a chance of the wheel and brake caliper coming off, its hard driving on three wheels, not worth the risk

I am retired after forty years in auto and heavy equipment maintenance and any mechanic that tells you that a bad wheel bearing is not likely to completely fail in two hundred miles is smoking something besides exhaust fumes. You need to fix it before you leave-for your own and everybody else's safety.

you need to replace the bearings first. it is a very simple job. take the wheel off, pop open the hub and there you are. About 30 - 45 minutes each side. Bearings are only going to be about $15 U.S. each side.

No, I would not drive the car with bad wheel bearings. If the wheel bearing overheats and fails, it can destroy the spindle and your tire may go flying off into oblivion! stay safe.
