1. Why did Ishmael talk about Cain and Abel? Did the story have any special relationship to the takers and leavers story?

2. Why did 'I' (author) bribe a guy?
(I don't recall who that guy was, but I remember that he told the author at the end that Ishmael was dead.)

The story of Cain killing Abel symbolizes the Leaver being killed off and their lands taken so that it could be put under cultivation.
He bribed a worker who was closing down the sideshow tent so that he could stay with the gorilla a while longer.
