My dad is going to different websites to find a computer camp for me to go to but I told him I really don't want to go. He is just about to sign me up and I told him I don't want to. He think summer is a time when you can't relax. He wants me to learn SAT vocabulary words and have a tutor and go to educational and computer camps every week. I know he means it for my own good, but I think I can relax because it's the summer. When I tell him that he just yells at me. What should I do? I am going into 9th grade and I'm a 14 year old boy. Thanks!

I planned on hanging out with friends, playing sports, sleeping late, and watching TV. It's the summer I don't see what's the big deal about that.

I had the same problem, but at least no one's trying to send me away.
Is your mother or another adult with you that you can talk to it about? If not, try writing your dad a letter explaining your opinion. I know, that's retarded, but I've done it before and it actually works. Tell him that you know your first year of high school is going to be a lot of work and pressure, and you would like some time to relax before it starts. You'll probably have to compromise though, and agree to do some studying. I'm having to do work over the summer just to get into the classes I signed up for.
Good luck, anyways. I'm right there with you.

WOW! That sounds like a pretty hefty schedule! Doesn't he get time off from work? He needs to understand that you need some time off too!
Try this, "Hey, Dad, I understand you want me to continue my education, and I think it's important too. Would you agree to me learning 20 SAT words a week for the summer and go to 2 weeks of computer camp? I don't want to disappoint you, Dad, but I would like to be able to spend some time with my friends before I graduate from high school since I'll be working on my college education afterwards and won't have time to see them."
Good luck. Hope this helps. :)

You will appreciate it when your 18 and your well above your other peers as far as education and knowledge is involved, seriously I wish my father took more control of my educational needs when I was younger...
Take advantage of it, all of that costs $ to him and believe me when I say that its better to have a parent that cares, as opposed for you to be on the streets smoking crack with some friends or getting some girl pregnant.
Use the tools he is giving you, when your on your own, when you become an adult, you will have plenty of time to relax. Besides, many girls love an intelligent, smart and clever man, knowing a guy that knows how to fix my computer, about the laws of thermodynamics or the philosophies of Aristotle or how to cook me some good steak... well, thats Hot ;-).
Your brain is like a sponge right now, use it!

I think dad just wants you to stay in some form of "school" routine over the summer. Some kids tend to dismiss school work completely and it is harder for them to readjust in the fall. Is there a way to compromise? Maybe you can agree to a tutor if he agrees for no camp. Are you a good student in school or do you need help? THis might be why he wants you in camp also. Kids get bored easily. Maybe he feels this is a way to both remedy boredom while keeping up academics. Good luck.

what are you doing with your summer? Are you relaxing by sitting in front of the computer or the TV or some other screen for most of the day? Are you enjoying yourself outside and participating in activities? Are you involved in anything useful or potentially beneficial? Are you content to waste your time sleeping and eating and hanging out? Is your dad trying to keep you busy so you won't get into trouble? Is he right?

It certainly won't hurt you to do some studying during the summer. You have all day. Your dad works during the summer. No one should have two full months and expect to do nothing. You're going into high school and he wants you to be prepared. Believe it or not, eventually you'll thank him for his concern for you.

As long as you live under your parents roof - DON'T COMPLAIN OR WHINE!!! Your parents are giving you opportunities and you need to stop being so disrespectful!!!
Appreciate their efforts and stop complaining!
Most kids do NOT get these type of opportunities - APPRECIATE THEM!!!
Once you're an adult - then you'll finally see why your parents are doing this now............
