My 11 month old son loves brown bread, he loves brown toast for breakfast and he also has a sandwich with me at lunch. Is this ok for him to have? He also has avocado, cucumber and sometimes ham in his sandwiches and he has raw carrot , apple and banana. I read the baby cookery books and it never says anything about giving them bread should I be giving him this?

its fine and its better that he eats brown bread...my son loves dry bread and one of his favorite snacks is dry bed and a glass of water...i feel like im a jailor!!! he sounds like he has good taste buds and you feed him really well.just remember at this age introduce loads of different flavours and textures to his diet as it will promote healythy eating habits later.

My baby has had bread, brown and white since 5-6 months, just small bits at first. She's 8 months now and has toast with marmite in the morning, sometimes a sarnie in the afternoon. She eats everything we eat, has 3 meals a day with snacks in between, for a treat she has custard with a dot of chocolate cake and is perfect on the weight line. I avoid pureed food cos it doesn't help development. My health visitor said to feed her everything except milk and too much salt.
So bread is not a worry.

Yes bread is fine. My kids often had toast soldiers when they were that age, which is one of the finger foods they usually advise. As long as he is getting a varied diet and isn't living off just bread and milk he will be fine.

When my son was 8 months old he loved bread, especially with the crusts on. Go with your instinct and what he likes, I threw away the baby books when my second one arrived, far too regimental and single minded. If you feed him fruit, fresh vegetables and a mixture of tastes and textures you can't go far wrong.

If he's happy to eat it, don't worry! How are the "dirty nappies"? If diarrhoea-like, then cut down on the brown bread and substitute for white. You are lucky, many parents struggle to get their children to try brown bread, never liking it!

Bread and avocado are very fattening. Becareful with your childs weight when they are you and chances are they will not have a weight issue when they are older. Fat babies mean fat kids and then fat adults.

It starts when they are young. The fruit and veggies are great, but bread and potato intake are things that need to be monitored.
