25 miles - tops. Get to the gas station immediatly. You know when your car runs out of petrol it puts a massive strain on the engine. Without fuel in the pistons the engine runs lean which causes something called detonation. Never let your car run out of fuel if ou can help it. On older cars it can be fatal.

Think we're getting confused here. A RED light is not the fuel level warning - that one's orange. A red light is a warning of something seriously wrong and it depends which one it is.

If you do mean the little orange fuel light, don't gamble on how much fuel you have left. Those things are notoriously inaccurate and, as well, you don't want to run the tank too low as all sorts of crud can be dragged into the fuel system. As soon as it appears, then's the time to start looking for more fuel.

It depends how you drive, and what sort of driving conditions (speed, traffic, etc.) you are in at the time.
Fuel lights usually indicate approx 5 litres left.
If you don't know your normal fuel consumption, work it out, then you can work out how far you can go on 5 litres. However don't push it - you may be in less economical conditions than normal, and the gauge and light are not that accurate - plan to fill up in less than half the distance you would normally get from 5 litres just to be safe.

About 30... depending on the sort of driving you are doing. Don't push it though, my Peugeot 206 is 7 years old and the fuel gauge has a mind of it's own.
