If the south had won the war between the states, what do you suppose the US of A would be like now? Would agriculture be a bigger part of the economy? Would we be as technically advanced as we are? You're thoughts and opinions are requested and appreciated. Thank you.

hmmmmm .. I wonder just how they figure it would be the same? I take it your first answers are from people that don't know squat about their own countries history to assume such a thing.

If the CSA had won by over running and taking major Union positions in the North or been able to lets say just hold their ground and had won the war by stalemate, things would have been and be a lot different today.

First off you would have two separate countries on the same Continent people. And I'm sure that over time the U.S. would have come to hospitable relations and trade with the CSA. But the United States would be about half the size it is today.

Having said all that, and not giving you a "nice rosy" politically correct answer, I doubt the Confederacy would have wanted to rejoin the Union after winning, why would they? After all, they are the ones who won ... hypothetically here anyway. lol

Click the link below, it's a map of the Confederacy in 1863. Now try and imagine possibly adding a few states from the North that might have been acquired through advancement during the war, ie. Maryland, New Jersey, parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois possibly. Speaking of this, It's also in my opinion that West Virginia definitely wouldn't exist today, it would have been forced to rejoin the State of Virginia.

Also add some States from the Southwest that most likely would have joined the CSA, ie. New Mexico, Arizona for starters. So this gives you a good idea of how things could have been geographically different, but also for the people that lived and live in that area today. For one, slavery would have definitely continued for many more years in the South if the CSA had won the Civil War.

So how could you say things would be the same today? Our history and the history of the world would be completely different as we now know it.

probably what it is now because both sides would have ended up working together as they pretty much do now.did you ever see the show rifleman were the yankee general was at luke's ranch and a johnny reb was hiding in the barn,,towards the end of the show they mended their ways and the yankee general paid a compliment to the reb saying that they gave one hell of a fight..on now to heal the nations wounds,,,,,,i think working together they would have done that...
