I hope I'm wrong, but I have a horrible feeling it might turn out to be the worst casting decision in Doctor Who since Bonnie Langford was chosen as the Doctor's companion in the 1980s.

I was really looking forward to the Christmas special. Now I'm dreading it.

OK - so perhaps "dreading" was a bit strong, but I'll certainly be watching it with a very sceptical eye now.

Liane H - what an appaling thought. If KM starts singing and dancing in Doctor Who, thats when I switch off.

The only way I could see a musical version of Doctor Who working is if it were to be done similarly to Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds"

Thanks for all your answers, I enjoyed reading them, and some have made me a little more optimistic about it.

I'm really pleased that Catherine Tate is to be the new companion by the way. I'm sure she will perform to the best of her abilities as the accomplished character actress she is.

OMG Bonnie Langford was truly awful wasn't she...

However when i heard Catherine Tate was to be his companion last Christmas i too dreaded it, expecting some sort of comedy show instead of Doctor Who. But i was pleasantly surprised by Catherine's acting, particularly on the serious bits.

So i remain cautiously optimistic!!

(Safe in the knowledge that nothing, but nothing could be as bad as Bonnie Langford - Lovely person I'm sure, but THE worst Doctor Who companion ever!!!!!!!!)

Well i think it was better than last years effort, on the whole, i had worked out that Morrisey was not a Timelord pretty much early on into it and thought this spoilt it some what, Rosita was brilliant as a companion, Tennant a brilliant performance by him a lot of sultry mean & moody looks throughout, Derva as Miss Mercy/Cyber King was brilliantly evil, and she played the part very well, i almost thought we were getting 2 factions of Cybermen like the Daleks. I was not all that impressed by Morrisey and was glad he is not going to be the Next Doctor, David Tennant is a hard act to follow and i don't think Morrisey has it. Also i think the Cyberman iron giant robot spaceship was a bit to over the top, it could have been done a bit better, and had a bit more intruige about Morrisey's involvement as the Doctor Well lets hope Planet Of The Dead is an improvement on The Next Door, would be terrible for Tennant to go out with plod along stories especially after the fast paced season 4

I trust the Doctor Who production team. A lot of people were sceptical about Catherine Tate but she was pretty good as Donna.
Kylie has acted in TV and in films, although we think of her as a singer her original profession was as an actress. I am sure the part she plays will be written to fit with her abilities and strengths.

Well, the Christmas episode 'Voyage of the Dammed' will take place on the Titanic (as seen at the end of the Doctor Who finale last Saturday). I also heard it announced earlier that she won't be a baddie.
Therefore, it's more than likely that Kylie will be playing a Kate-Winslet type role of one of the posh society ladies...so I can't really see her being able to get it that wrong.

Plus the Christmas special episodes are usually more fun than the actual series. I'd be more worried as to who they are going to cast for the Doctor's next assistant, following the departure of Martha Jones...

I dunno, it might be interesting, look how well Catherine Tate's appearance went last Christmas (I enjoyed it - kept waiting for her to ask am i bovvered though). I can envisage her playing a malevolent alien or a baddie which would be a nice change because I've only ever seen her playing a good guy. Lets just hope her acting skills have improved significantly since "Street Fighter". She was almost (but not quite) as bad as Van Damme!!!!!

To those giving out about her milking her cancer - anyone who battles this and survives is a hero in my book. She kept her head down when it happened and wasn't splashing herself across magazines going on about her cancer hell, please give her a break. It's not fair that people with cancer cannot get quick, good quality treatment, but that's not Kylie Minogue's fault - it's our government's poor health policy that is to blame.

Can't say I'm dreading it. In fact I'm still looking forward to the return of the best thing on telly.

I do have reservations about Kylie though. Dr Who just doesn't need to start casting famous people for the 'gimmick' factor. It's a strong enough programme in its own right.

hmm...should be, erm, "interesting".
Let's hope she don't start singing "I should be so lucky" while clinging to an iceberg or break into a duet with The Doctor singing "Especially for you". I think that would be really tacky and I'd lose respect with RTD if that happened. However, a musical episode of Buffy worked with "Once more with feeling" so maybe RTD would be trying to follow in Joss Whedon's footsteps. I know John Barrowman wants to do a musical version of Torchwood, can't see it working though, even with as lovely a voice as he has.

I like Kylie. Plus she's been through a tough time lets not forget. Yes she was in a soap and she wasnt half bad either, but lets not forget the street fighter movie. To be honest I dont think her performance was that bad...the movie and script was just rubbish. Overall id say she'll pull it off well and anyone who likes doctor who (which doesnt include me im afraid) should look forward to it.

Hi space Phantom.I suppose it could be worse.....can't quite think how at the moment like !!.I've vowed down to give everyone a fair chance after I couldn't stand Martha at first and now I actually prefer her to Rose(couldn't stand Billy at first either).Kylie wasn't too bad in neighbours,I suppose it depends what part she's playing and if,like someone said, she starts singing.xxx
