I would like to take the hd from a computer with a dead (and very expensive) power supply, and put it into a working omputer. Trouble is that the hd is a sata drive, and the motherboard in the working computer has no socket for a sata.

Depending upon the drive you have.. you might want to get a SATA control board.. I think they cost about $300.

Or.. follow this link.. they list some adapters for about $12

Just make sure you get the right one.. some are for SATA control boards to IDE drives.. some are for SATA drives to IDE controllers.

they sell a conversion cable/adapter that goes from SATA to IDE. Not that expensive and works pretty well. To get true SATA speed though you might want to consider installing a SATA card in the machine.
