To all those who say libby wasn't given amnesty, look up the definition. That's exactly what he was given when his prison sentence was commuted. There is absolutely no difference. Republicans support amnesty for a traitor to the country, but not hard working immigrants trying to give their families a better life. They run on a platform of being strong on national security. By supporting the leaking of CIA agents names, who work for this country? Just because they disagree with the administration. I can agree that Libby was the fall guy, and that Rove and Cheney should have been charged with treason (that is in fact what they are guilty of), but the fact of the matter is Libby obstructed justice. And he obstructed justice to a much greater degree than Clinton did when he was IMPEACHED!!!! Clinton lied about a *******, he didn't cover up info on who leaked CIA info..

Try reading a little more and not react to what you hear. He did not receive amnesty, he had his prison sentence commuted. He still has to pay a fine ($250,000) and will be on probation for 2 years. Add to that the fact he'll be a convicted felon and have that on his record for the rest of his life. I think it's a mostly just solution. As for the illegal immigrants, especially Mexicans, I read the other day that they send back to Mexico over $20 billion a year. How does that help America? If you want to come into the U.S., do it legally like millions and millions of others have. I just don't think it's fair to all those who came here through the right channels, like my ancestors did. Peace.

Both tried to cheat the legal process. But letting Libby off just lets one person off without paying the full penalty demanded by the justice system.
Amnesty for immigration cheats on the other hand affects millions of people, and not just Mexicans either. It sets a huge precedent with far-reaching consequences and requires a lot of thought and discussion. Hopefully a lot more thought would go into such a decision than President Bush apparently expended on the Libby decision.

Are you seriously asking someone here to explain Bush's thought process?
Anyway, Bush was FOR amnesty for illegal immigrants, so the commutation (not amnesty) for Libby is not so much out of character.
Just how did you come to the beliefs that led you to ask the question as you did?

Amnesty is a bad thing for Mexicans as they don't vote and therefore don't count. Scooter has a lot of good friends who not only vote but also donate to the GOP, so he has to be looked after. I'm sorry if that sounds cynical, but we are talking politics.

Libby did not get amnesty he got his prison sentence commuted.
12-20 million illegal Mexicans are living in this country with impunity. They get free health care, free tuition, free breakfast and lunch. When they start paying like Libby has to then we can talk about equality.

Amnesty for Scooter is a blatant misuse of the presidential power. Getting your buddies off the hook for something you helped them do, isn't why the president has the power to grant amnesty. But then there have been a ton of ways presidential power has been misused by this administration, its just one more to add to the pile.

Maybe the whole country of Mexico should be fixed.
Most of the people I've met from there actually like their country, just not the abject poverty and uncaring government that has no welfare, no public education and no healthcare for any of its people, but owns one of the world's most lucrative oil businesses.
As for all the other illegals, the companies that hire them should be forced to sponsor their employees and all others should be sent home.

1) Libby broke the law, but not all Mexicans living in the US have.
2) Libby is rich and will peel $250 Gs off his pocket wad without blinking to pay the fine, while most Mexicans in the US are hard-working taxpayers just trying to get by.
3) Bush loves criminals, has an affinity with them.
That's the difference.
