Russell is the future.
He will take over eventually. Can you imagine the flak he will get if the Raiders don't come out all guns blazing?
Of course, the opposite view of looking at it is that many people expect the Raiders to suck anyway, so why not put him in and give him the experience?
But I say give him time. Let him sit for a while, and only put him in if McCown completely stinks up the Coliseum.
After all, even if McCown plays well, there will be no danger of any QB controversy, because we all know that the big guy from Mobile, AL will take over eventually.
Conclusion. Do what the Titans did last year. Let JaMarcus sit for a while, and bring him in later.

McCown, he is a vet who has had some success and has a big arm to fit the raiders style. He is very athletic (remember he has lined up as a wr before) but eventually J-Marc wil ltake over, as far as a Vince Young season i think J-Marc can do better then that. Vince had a good year winning some games for the titans but statistically it wasnt that great ( 15 games, 2,000 yards, 12 tds and 13 picks, completed 50 percent) he did use his legs which is a great advantage to have but J-Marc cant scramble like that and uses his unique phsyical gifts to deliever lightning stirke passes to receivers. he will probably start to see action around game 9-10 and will be gauge from there, is he performs decently they may decide to have hime play out the season and get the experiance if he doesnt perfrom decently they will go back to McCown or Walter to finish the year and work with J-Marc in pratice and of season to get him ready for his takeoever in the 2008 season.

Officially they Raiders have stated they will be starting Walter and having Russell at #2 so that he can have time to develop and learn the system. Whether he stays at #2 for the whole season or if the Raiders do what Tennessee did last year by moving Young to #1 and Collins to #2, and put Russell in as the starter after 5 games, no one knows.

I would start with McCown for at least four games and then put in Russell in if that is a total bust. That would allow Russell to not only see preseason action but also to get a sense of the flow for the regular season.

The Raiders were dead last in 2006. You have to start Russell. Even if the guy fails, the Raiders should be contractually obligated to play the guy. JaMarcus Russell probably won't be a Vince Young though.

they should start McCown for a bit then put in Russell. Russell is a rookie and needs time to get to know the playbook, how to respond to regular season pressure, and other things that only time will develop

I would put in McCown for the first bit of the season, then i would go to Russel because he is more talented. But definitly work Russel alot in preaseason games as the starter, he needs to get up to speed with the NFL defenses.

I am an LSU season ticket holder and I have watched Russell throughout his college career. He is an amazing athlete. The weakness I saw with Russell is that on too many occasions his decision making is too slow. You can get away with that in college but not the pros.
I remember Peyton talking to his dad (Archie) about how the window of opportunity in the pros comes and goes quickly. Much more so than in college. If you recall, Peyton had quite few interceptions his first two years.
Therefore, I would hope they would bring Russell along more slowly and not throw him to the dogs right away.

The only professional experience McCown has is in professionally losing. He's a white Aaron Brooks, totally incompetent on his best day.

Vince Young is an over rated running back that can occasionally throw a pass. JR is the real deal. I am an LSU fan and saw every college game JR played. I dont think he should start right away, let him get used to things first. He is the future for the raiders, give him time.
