I am currently freeloading off my neighbours wireless network.

This has been working fine for the last 4 weeks.

However yesterday when signal went low IE6 stated "offline" and cannot access any websites (although PC says still connected to network).

And yet Firefox accesses web no problem.

Is there something in IE6 settings I need to change? Why would this change from prior to yday when IE6 worked fine?

Thanks (no sermons on why I shouldnt freeload please)

Hmm. Thanks for these (ultimately inconclusive) responses. I was just curious as to why this should be.

Prefer to avoid IE7 and yes am getting used to Firefox (although am more used to IE settings eg using Alt-A for Favorites instead of Alt-B for Bookmarks; also IE has better Favorites editing functionality)

Cheers al

It may still be possible to go to Microsoft and download a new copy of IE6... but you may not need to do that.

You can try changing some settings in Internet Options that might do the trick; since Firefox uses it's own internal settings for some of these same items, it will sometimes continue to work properly where IE will cause problems if these are not correct.

Unfortunately, since you're freeloading, you may not know what service provider to get the correct information from... and if you do, they may not want to provide you with it due to the fact that you probably don't have an account with them.

If you DO have an acct that simply isn't working for some reason, the best thing to do is to call your provider for technical support. If you don't, this is one of the best practical (let's leave out moral for the moment) reasons to get your own acct.

Likely, if you can find out who your neighbor is getting service from, though, someone you know may be able to tell you all the correct settings. In the meantime, you are probably stuck with Firefox.

I am your neighbour.. stop freeloading off my connection... only joking like =)

Firefox is a better browser than IE6 anyway, although upgrading to IE7 would be a better suggestion. There is always the obvious problem, on Internet Explorer, click the File menu and make sure the 'Work Offline' option is not ticked.

If this doesn't work, just keep Firefox, it's a lot lot safer than IE6 and IE7.
