I used to take Evening Primrose Oil to help alleviate the symptoms of period pain but you have to take these for at least the 2 weeks before the period is due. Hot water bottle or heat one of those wheat bags. Exercise such as swimming can help also.

keeping your tummy and feet warm (I know, it's weird in the heat, but...). Be very, very careful with a bath - it can make you bleed heavily, and that is also not pleasant. I personally found that the hormonal (anti-conceptive) pills have a very smoothing effect on my period (I have almost fainted with the pain, and I am by no means unique) - it is shorter and I don't feel any pain at all. This method isn't very natural, though. Of the painkillers, I found that Motrin used to have a rather strong effect on the cramps, and in quantities that didn't make me _that_ drowsy. But that's not natural either.

It's not good if your pain-killers are not working. You may have Dysmenorrhea, however make sure you take tablets after you have eaten, use an anti-inflammatory like Nurofen which will ease the muscular cramping. There are also natural remedies like wheat packs which you heat and apply to the body, but if it is so bad that analgesics are not working I would see your doctor.

One thing that always worked for me was to take one or two motrin per day a week BEFORE your period. A midwife I had once told me that and it really worked for me. Also, even though this doesn't sound ideal, walking seems to loosen and stretch things out down there. I never liked it but it really does work if you can get up the gumption to do it. I hope this helps and good luck.

In addition to medication I also have a heating pad that I use sometimes as well as an herb pack that I apply to the area.
If the cramping is so severe that you can't function on a daily basis this needs to be evaluated by your dr to see what they think is causing this.

Put a hot water bottle (bottle filled with hot water) over your stomach. Heating pad. Running. Taking a nap. Taking a hot bath. Just don't ball up or else that will make it worse. Try to be as stretched out as you can.

Take a hot bath or use a hot water bottle over your abdomen.
Drinking rosehip tea can help too.
