It was about 8 minutes long, consisted mainly of one note being played over and over, and got to number 2 in the charts in 1981? Who knows which song kept it from getting to number 1? (from the days when such things mattered!)

Ha. I've still got it on 7 inch vinyl. I remember buying it and driving the girlfriend (now my missus) absolutely nuts.

Part of the larger work United States, "O Superman," a half-sung, half-spoken, almost minimalist piece. Much of Anderson's fame can be traced, directly or indirectly, to this song. DJ John Peel first brought it to everyones attention in Britian.

I am curious who topped it though! Tell me pretty please???
