I think I see how this works. It seems that all you have to do is
look for a question no one can answer - or is running out of time, then place an answer like - "I am sorry I don't know".
Then vote for yourself when the time runs out. What is the point of that?
Is being a "Top Contributor" so important however you get there?

Ummm no not at all important and has no meaning whatsoever..well,unless someone has no life then I suppose they think it has some meaning or is something to be proud of..truly sad eh...

Nope, not important at all...
especially since it seems to come and go on it's own.
Top Contributors are not permanent, which is to say you must continue to be an active answerer in order to retain a Top Contributor badge.

How does one earn the Top Contributor badge?
"You must answer at least 50 questions in one particular Y!A category within 30 days and receive Best Answers on at least 10% of those answers. I don't think being a top contributor is so important. I just got this tag today. If anything, I think it's a bit distracting & calls attention to you like, "Oh look at me! I think I'm so great!" Which I don't think at all. I think you get it b/c you ask & answer a lot of questions in one particular category.

I like the badge, but it is not very important. I've just stuck to the same category for a while both in asking and answering... that did the trick...

No it is not at all important to me i answer onto yahoo answers just for myself and not for being a top contributor

You have a point there, but to answer your question, no. I was happy when I'm chosen to be a Top Contributor but to be honest it don't really matter to me...

Not at all........when you become a top contributer all the trolls come out and report you and you end up being suspended
