I'm going swimming with my friend in two days at the lake, and i just got my period. It should be light by the time i go. I don't wear tampons, and i was wondering if it would be okay to go swimming while i've got my period if its light, and if its at the lake (compared to a public/private pool). Please reply quickly because i dont know what to do!
Thank you so much.

I would definately wear shorts overtop my bathing suit, if that helps any.
Also, are there any suggestions not including tampon use, because i just dont feel comfortable wearing them for my own reasons.

You would be better off wearing a tampon. They're not as bad as they seem. At least try wearing one that day and practice like two days before on how to use one so that you won't have a problem on the day you go to the lake. You'll probably feel more comfortable with a tampon because you won't have to worry about any blood getting on your legs or swimsuit when you get out of the water. Good luck and Have fun!

Technically you can but don't. Its gross, unhygienic and very unfair on the rest of the people using the pool if your swimming round whilst on your period without a tampon in. No matter how light it is, put a tampon in. Please. For the other swimmers sake.

I agree that it might be best to bite the bullet and wear the tampon, but if not- I've heard that water (swimming/ baths/ showers) can temporarily halt the flow of your period, so you might not have /any/ problems. Though, if you decide to go without a tampon, it might be best to wear shorts over your bathingsuit bottom just in case.

Sorry but for sanitary reasons its really disgusting to not wear a tampon while on your period in the pool.

Blood still comes out and still contaminates the water. It just disperses into the water before you see it.

It really depends on how light it is. If its not even staining your panties then you are ok. But if it IS staining them, you should wear a light absorbency tampon.

you should learn to wear a tampon. dont risk it because it's not worth it.

or try not to swim because once you get out of the lake, you're bound to leak (as nasty as it may sound) and that's just embarassing

I dont think its very sanitary to do so. If it is just you and your friend and he/she doesnt mind then maybe you are safe to do so, but I wouldnt advise it until your period is completely gone to save embarassment for yourself and personal hygiene for others.
