Yes. They can transfer salmonella from their feces (which they walk in) to your skin which you can ingest and get sick from.

You need to wash your hands in life a lot. Get over being annoyed, you will keep yourself clean and healthy. Especially beware of shopping carts. Who knows where all of those hands have been? I read my answer and I sound like a crackpot. Just wash your hands and wash them often oh and keep your hands out of your mouth. . .

Yes. Actually you should wash them before and after. You wouldn't want them to get any harmful bacteria from your hands either.

They poop and pee in their cage and spend all day digging around in it! you could get sick from germs in the hamster poop that have gotten on your hamster.
