An acre was the traditional size of an English field strip in feudal times (the Middle Ages), 220x22 yards, i.e. 4840 sq. yds.

A square meter is slightly bigger than a square yard, though I don't know offhand how much bigger. My guess - 4500 sq. m. in an acre.

1 acre = 4840 sq.yards.

1.00000 Yard = 0.91440 Meters

1 sq. yard = 0.83612736 sq.mts

4840 x 0.83612736 = 4046.856422 sq.mtrs

Let us say approx. 4046.9 sq.mtrs
