Blend your name and the baby's father's name. For example, Janet and Steve would have Janeve.
You can also blend your names and spell it backwards.
Janeve would become Evanaj. Okay, Evanaj might sound silly, but other names spelled backwards might be cute.

Go to this website and look at the trends:
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/
Pick a name from the 60's and 70's and it will be unusual 20 years from now. People are starting to name their children names from the 40's and 50's now as a return to the traditional.

My mother's name is Floy--her mother named her after a movie star or magazine star (or something like) that back in the 1930's. She has only met 1 or 2 others by her name in her life. I've never met anyone else with the name Floy. However, I've had lots of telemarketers confuse it with Floyd.

Well, if you're not opposed to saddling your offspring with something very strange, you could name them Ambidextrous Finisher. =) Or something equally odd, that will get them made fun of, not respected as an adult, etc.
At any rate, I find it useful to go to the social security website and look up most popular names in the early 1900s. People have heard of those, but they're not common anymore. Just watch out for grandmotherly names.
Anyway, I like Alice, Violet, Rose... They're not unusual, per se, but not every other kid has them. And now that I look at them, they're so proper and english-y. xD Doesn't seem like those are your style, though.
Just keep in mind that this name will be their name FOREVER (unless they change it). So I wouldn't suggest misspelling a common name (Mackenzie, not Makynzi, for God's sake) because it can honestly make it harder for them to get a job when they're older. A lot of names are lovely, but you really wouldn't want to give them to a kid. =)
Good luck.
