Derek Fisher ended his run with my beloved Jazz today at a press conference that was very unexpected. In a world where family values are not taught, Derek Fisher stands as the poster boy for family values. So many athletes are so full of themselves that they never take the time to stop and think. Derek Fisher taught a lesson to human beings everywhere today. The lesson is that there are more important things then sports. He taught us that faith in God is something to be proud of even though many may take his name in vain. He has taught every father that family is more important then anything else. He will be missed in Utah. I look up to him for all that he has done. He may not have been the greatest basketball player to ever play the game, but he is the best role model to ever play the game. Thank you Mr. Fisher for all that you have done. He is a real man.

Well ever since he hit that shot as a laker with 0.4 seconds left against the spurs a few years ago, Fish has been a god in my eyes (a die hard laker fan). So, I guess if you are a god that would make you the man as well, so yes, he's the man. I watched that jazz game where he came to the game late after being with his daughter, and it only reinforced my feelings for him. Fish is the man.

he is "da man"! He was in the conference finals and not worried at all about the games. It was all family. That was pretty great. You know other guys (won't mention names) that would probably put the team first. The sad thing is, most people would think that putting the team first would be ok. Derek Fisher is great. I hope that San Antonio has the special hospital staff and facilities for his family. I would love to see him here. Either way, whether he plays again or not, he should have some NBA award named after him one day soon.

In the NBA today, what he did is a rarity. When family comes into the picture, most NBA stars talk about cars, cribs, bloated, fat contracts, shoe deals, movie appearances, ill-fated rap careers... seldom do we read and hear about the value of family. Derek Fisher reminds us that there is a place for a family man in the game today. What he did is worthy of emulation. At times, the riches of the game cannot be your end result of it all. Hope that the Fishers find a solution to the medical condition of their daughter, Tatum. Retinoblastoma is a rare ailment and their daughter had to be part of the statistic. God bless their family. Hopefully, this action opens a lot of eyes to our present roster of NBA players.

Derek Fisher has always been true to his word, his dedication to his faith, family, friends and his professional career. He is very passionate about the people who means the most and his game of basketball....I love to see D-Fish finish out his career as the Lakers, that would be a great to see and Laker fans will definately embrace him with love and support for Fish. If there is one NBA player who is real and someone I respect, D-Fish would be one.

OMG, is he retiring???
He is a talented leader and player. He had some great values about family life and most importatly, GOD and how to trust and believe in him at all times. He made me cry (And I don't cry very easily) when I saw the tears in his eyes after he came back and won the game for Utah against Golden State. He seems to be very passionate about his family and I hope many players can look up to him and maybe he can come back one day as a coach.
May the Lord Bless him!

Dear elderzito,

D. Fish deserves all the props in the world. He definetly reminds us that there is something more important thank basketball.

As a die hard Laker fan - i couldn't imagine a day when i would actually root for Utah- i hate them from the Malone-Stockton days- but i had to admit that i found myself rooting for D. Fish and Utah when he was coming back at halftime choosing to be with his daughter first.

i will root for him where-ever he lands. A part of me deep within knows that the Jules Stein center at UCLA can be very helpful with his daughters situation in which case maybe he'll land back with the Lakers.

Thank God for a man who lives his values.

D. Fish you the man!

Not trying to be a moron here but maybe he showed us that he wanted to play for a contender....... You know a team like Dallas looking for veterans for cheap?????? I'm not saying that its all show and I do acknowledge that him opting to stay in NY with his daughter rather than play in the playoffs was amazing, him coming back and taking that game winninig shots made for a great drama and I do respect him for that. But him leaveing Utah coz his daughter aint getting adequate treatment doesnt sound right. Utah has an awesome cancer treatment center, it doesnt have rockstar doctors like NY but none the less, she would have been taken care of. If he leaves NBA for her daughter, now that would truely be inspirational but it could be nothing more than a ploy to relocate coz Jazz have another 3 years before they become serious contenders.
