I am a Liberal Christian and I don't believe for a second that being a Republican has a thing to do with being a Christan.
How is this any different than Republicans labeling the Democrats as the "Godless Party"?????

A relatively small percentage of people are atheists, so just by the numbers alone vast majority of people in both camps belong to at least some religion.
The reason why there is this connection is because Republican ideology is better aligned with the hardcore religious dogma.

I don`t but I am a Liberal because I believe that we are all in this together instead of every man for himself and I fallow representatives of the people`s will instead of father figures that know best and that the human is not ultimately bad and needs restraining but gets desperate when lacking opportunity. And I also don`t have a mean dad, OK that is a stretch but most of the time is true.

So, you're arguing that liberals don't like Christians, therefore liberals believe that all Christians are Republicans. Or all Republicans are Christians. That makes absolutely no sense. And this is going to blow your little brain...I'm a liberal AND a Christian.

I dont believe that all Christians are Republicans and I dont believe that all Republicans are Christians, but since most Republicans are conservatives and most conservatives are Christians, that makes most Republicans Christians.

I know many very religious people that are liberals. I know just as many that are conservatives.
Conservativism tends, however, to lean towards more traditional Christian values, concerning issues such as abortion, gay marraige, etc. This may lead to the misconception that conservatives are more religious, when in reality it is probably more of a coincidence.

I imagine that is what the Southern Democrats thought when they joined the republican party, and pushed it toward more conservative ideals.

The Republican Party has advertised and sold itself to the American people as the ‘Christian’ party. If you are unaware of that you have not been paying attention.
Does it bother you that Bush and Rove were overheard making jokes and laughing about how stupid and gullible conservative Christians are? Does it bother you that Bush called the US Constitution, “just a G’ddamn piece of paper”?

Speaking for myself...
I don't dislike Christians, I dislike candidates who 'run on religion' as if it were "proof" of their morality, values and integrity. It is not! I don't dislike Christianity, I dislike the 'Separation of Church and State' doctrine being disregarded and Christianity used to legislate morality and impose restrictions on individual rights (i.e., marriage, pro-choice, stem cell research and abstinence-only health programs).
However, if a Christian candidate has intelligence, integrity and proposes solutions that make sense for the issues that concern me, I would vote for that person. I respect others' religious beliefs, but I think it's in poor taste for one to use their religion for political gain, and reprehensible to imply that their religion gives them a "monopoly on morality".
BTW... I'm a Libertarian which, simply put, means that I'm liberal (pro-individual rights) on social issues and conservative (pro-free market) on economic issues.
