When you see a girl you know and like as a friend, why is it that she can greet you lively, with a huge smile, but you return an emotionless acknowledgment?

This happens to me a lot. I know that it's not that they don't like me because they always stop me to talk, but what is the reason for such an emotionless reaction?

Does the girl seem fake if she smiles when she says hello or something?

Hello Reisling,

My guess is that he is afraid of showing too much emotion towards you because then it might be misinterpreted. He's got a career and a family and don't want to have anyone questioning his commitment to jepordizing that... I've been in this situation. He probably wants to be totally casual with you, but is afraid how that might look... plus somewhere in the back of his mind he might be a little afraid that if he gets to comfortable with you it could lead to a sitation where he crosses the line... even the most commited men can be tempted by a beautiful, intelligent and engaging woman like yourself... .so cutting out the emotion prevents that scenerio from ever even coming up.

You just be yourself... keep being freindly and eventually he'll find a comfort level to be more casual and as the friendship grows the fears will start to subside.

That's my 2 cents!

Dan

Because young men (especially) are stupid and brainwashed into believing that expressing any emotion other than anger is not "masculine." If they "bubbled" when they saw you some jerk would lable them "gay," the kiss of death to straight guys who aren't yet comfortable with their sexuality.
