You may or may not cause problems. Assuming that you're using Windoze look at the programs that are currently running and show icons in the system tray on the bottom right. If there are any of them that you don't need you can quit them and speed up your computers response time. But the best thing you can do is install more ram.

IGNORE L CONDITION, he is thinking of applications, those are different.
Do not end the processes, some will cause damage to your computer if they are ended. Are you sure that it is the processes slowing your computer. Some other ways to speed up your computer is to go to Tools, Internet Options, Browsing History and delete all history, temproary files, and cookies. Also try some antivirus software , trojan viruses slow the heck out of your computer. Hope I helped.

Running 39 processes is way way way!! To many. 7 At the most. That can make your computer run like there is more then 25 virus's on it. Only 7. Good luck

I have 53 processes on an XP pro system without much what i consider unnecessary stuff. Go to task manager (control-shift-esc) and click on the porcess tab. click on the cpu column to see the top cpu users at the top. See anything unusual?
Instead of ending the processer, remove them from the startup menu (msconfig) but be sure not to disable essential processes!

I have 48 processes running, so you aren't doing too badly. I can't tell you which processes are not required without seeing a list, but most likely there are only one or two that can be disabled, and they probably should't.
(If anyone says they have only 7 processes running, they don't have windows, because windows uses much more than 7 processes t run.)
