what are the pros and cons of both? I have service with cingular, and my phone broke, and it seems the majority of the phones that I see on Ebay are all unlocked phones...but I don't know if I should get a locked or unlocked.

with an ulocked phone you can use different service providers. a locked phone is 'locked' to only one provider

Unlocked. You won't be able to use a phone until you unlock it which can be a real pain in the butt if you don't know how. If you get one already unlocked it will save you the extra step!

you should get an unlocked phone. because with a locked phone it could lockup on you later.

in my point of view based on my usage, its best if the phone is unlocked. for convenience, accessibility and versatility.
