When water is available, it drinks a tremendous amount of it and keeps it stored in its body. I believe a camel can go for up to 14 days without a refill.

Like other mammals a camel cannot survive without water. However, it is able preserve water inside its body through various designs of its blood cells, its kidneys, feces, nostrils to name a few. The preservation of the water it drinks, 20-25 gallons, is a complicated process of the above. The nostrils traps water vapor and returns it to camel's inside fluids. Its body temperature and sweating allows a preservation of 5 liters a day. The hump is used to store fatty body tissue that in a small respect adds to the process of retaining water. There is no exact length of time a camel is able to go without water because of the variations in temperature during the night and day. Like all mammals the hotter it is the faster the camel loses water, but far from the rate of other mammals.
