Ah, the great what if questions of history. He could have, if he had played his cards right.
Hitler's two big mistakes were, IMHO, attacking the Soviets while fighting Britain, and declaring war on the United States after the U.S. declared war on Japan.
Had he finished off the British, he would have been able to turn all his attention to the USSR, and may have been able to eliminate them. Then he would have had control of Europe.
If he had not declared war on the U.S. then we would have left him alone, and instead would have focused on Japan. He was not under any treaty requirement to do so. Granted, the U.S. would have had to intervene at some point, but the Americans would have been in a much more difficult pickle.
He would not have stopped. What happened at Munich and with Czechoslovakia and Austria before the war was proof of that.
Just my opinion. I'm glad that he did mess up. The world is infinitely a better place since we don't have that lunatick!!
Cheers!!

An intriguing question. Although at the beginning of the war Hitler seemed undefeatable, by 1945 he was running out of resources, soldiers, and allies.
Even if the United States did not enter the war at all, at some point Hitler would have had to cross the Atlantic with troops, even if he could send a nuclear warhead via rocket.
In reality, the fighting was pretty centralized for a "world war" (France, western Russia, North Africa, and the Pacific). That's a lot of territory, but actually, most of the world was unscathed by combat: North and South America, most of Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and Australia.
Another interesting "what if" question is whether or not Truman should have allowed MacArthur to attack Russia.

Hitler could not have taken over the world. Russia would not yield easily and I doubt whether or not the Axis would have been able to muster the industry and bodies necessary to conquer Russia. Russia is big. Really, really big. The logistics involved given the technology at the time would make such a victory very unlikely (even if Russia surrendered there would almost certainly be a persisitent insurgency).
Germany could not have conquered North America again due to the logistics of running a war across an ocean (unless maybe Mexico joined the Axis then that would make for interesting conversation).

He could have if he listened to his generals and didn't try to conquer the entire world at once. The Axis Powers could have triumphed in WW2 if Hitler had either tried two specific things.
One invade Britain directly. Removing Britain from the war would have ended the fear of a Western Front. Canada didn't have the naval strength to consider a cross Atlantic invasion, and America was still more worried about the Pacific.
or...
Two conquer the Mediterranean. Britain would remain in the war longer, but with Malta, Eygpt, and Palestine under German occupation and Turkey under German influence, greater strategic goals could be met easily. The middle east would now be open to attack, giving German the oil it would need for a long war, which was greater then that of the Caucusus. It would also isolate Britain from its extremedies (India and Austrualia) making it impossible for them to provide adequate help. The campaign would also help Italy and coul possibly bring greater arab support for the Nazi movement. It would also sidestep the Stalin line, meaning any invasion of the Soviet Union after Britain's defeat could almost immediately capture its most important fuel dumps in the Caucusus.

Germany was losing in Russia before the US forces were even deployed to Europe. Germany did not have enough people to control All of Europe let alone the world. With out US involvement supplying UK and Russia they may have fought Russia to a standstill and become the dominate European power.
Now the US is relatively more powerful that Germany every was. We have a lot of influence but we could not take over the world.

No. If Japan attempted to invade Australia they would have been greatly weakened. Id also say that once Italy reached the middle of Africa they would have met fierce resistance. Id also say that an invasion of the Caribbean and the Americas would have been devastating to who ever attempted.
History shows that the forces with the best navy usually wins, Germany was not exactly leading there. Japan did ok but not enough to counteract the awfulness of hitler's navy

In my OPINION -- Hitler could've taken Europe if he hadn't had delusions of grandeur and headed East. The Russians broke him - if he hadn't had to fight a two front War, he could've easily won the West.
England is another matter. I don't think we would have stayed out if Hitler continued after England. Once Goerring's air war failed - Hitler gave that up AND he was already overextended in the East.

Although he photo-mapped most of Antarctica, and had great ties with Mexico and South America, he could not have taken the States, and I doubt he ever wanted to. I think he really would have rather sued for peace with Britain and just taken Europe, Russia and the Middle East.
In which case, it really wouldn't have affected history much now, would it? I can't see much difference between good ol' Joe Stalin, Hitler, or any other totalitarianist state now in existence.

Even you said it in your question, "If America didn't get involved" To take over the world he would have to take on America at some point in time. So No!!! Germany was powerful enough at the time to take on just about anyone. But by no means was he able to take on a multiple of enemies at the same time. Plus, like all others in history (Napolean, Julius Ceasar, and Alexander the Great)...
Absolute Power corrupts absoulutely!!!

No. Europe, yes. The world, no. Could the Axis have won? Yes, but they weren't destined to. The events of WWII could've gone either way. The Americans, particularly the encoders, were brilliant. They were far ahead of their time. If we had them today who knows what they would come up with.
