This is going to sound totally stupid but... can a turtle reproduce on it's own? I was looking up info on turtles and a lot of sites mentioned that female turtles need to be able to release eggs and some other stuff. Just how does that work? I have a female turtle thats about 4 years old, should I be concerned about anything relating to eggs?

I have a RES [red eared slider] with a very stubborn yet funny personality.

To produce fertile eggs, turtles need mates. However, many older lone females sometimes release infertile eggs. It is not usually a big deal if the animal is well cared for.

Sorry I really don't know, but I had a turtle that used to lay eggs. They never hatched though.

no, you shouldn't be worried unless your girl encountered some guy fairly recently. turtle reproduction works more-or-less the same way human reproduction does. and don't worry about sounding stupid. what kind of turtle is yours?
