My 2001 Chevy Silverado daytime running lights are not working. Sometimes the will cut on for a second or two, but they will go right back to the headlights. Could someone please tell me what is the cause of this? I have checked the fuses and all are fine. Thanks!

Is this an automatic feature that occurs every time the key is turned? If so then this is a relay problem. If not then it's a photoelectric sensor problem.

Some cars have a sensor that turns the lights on and off according to the sunlight levels. This can be disabled by the driver and the lights turned off and on manually.

If your running lights come on all of the time when the car is running and this cannot be disabled by the driver then you have a bad relay or the plug that goes into the relay is loose.
This is generally under the hood, some are attached to the back of the headlight assembly, and not inthe "fuse box". They are generally square in shape and are mounted to the inner fender or skirt or the drivers side quarter panel.

One of the problems with the connections on some of the wiring is corrosion. If the plugs on the back of the headlights are corroded then this will affect at least one head light and side marker and turn signal. Same is true for the relay plug that may be located in the headlight assembly right next to the bulbs.

If it gets too frustrating then take it to a shop that only handles electrical work. If the lights work at night as they should, I wouldn't waste a dime on the day time problem.

Good Luck!

About 9 out of 10 late model Chevy and GMC trucks I see have this problem. It's a matter of after 90 years, GM still not being able to figure out how to wire a light properly. Cut the wires to the lights or remove the DRL fuse, problem solved, they are just a waste of energy anyway.
