This question can be interpreted many different ways, I choose to interpret it in it's true unblemished form.

The main objectives for any politician should be

1) To serve the interests of their constituents to the best of their ability.

2) To serve the interests of the applicable area to the best of their ability.

3) To do justice to the office to which they were elected.

A politician should hold to the goal of leaving the world a better place than it was before they came, that is why they were elected in the first place. Pandering to special interest groups and partisanship sully not only the office, but the candidate also, in the long run.

The main objective of a politician is to stay in their job as long as possible and gather as much power through whatever means necessary.

I think that when a politician first starts out they are full of ideas for wanting to help people and improve our country. As they get mired in the intricacies of politics they begin to get more than a little jaded and become part of the machine they represent. Whether they intended to or not, they end up making deals to get their legislation passed and they get bombarded by lobbyists breathing down their necks. In the end I think most of them either learn to play the game or they get out of politics. For these reasons, I think it's naive to expect any candidate for President, most of whom have years of politicking under their belts, to be clean as the driven snow. There's degrees of course - there are outright crooks vs. those who do the minimal to play the game they must play.

From what I can see their main objective is to gather money. For my main objective they are public servants, There to serve We the People with fair representation. To uphold the Constitution.

To do as little as possible.

The more they do, the more they screw up.

We need more politicians to go to the golf course. For the good of us all!
