You will recall that the 2000 election was very close with Gore winning the popular vote. Nader cost him a few electoral votes. Many voters were upset with Clinton and the Democrats. Gore ran an imperfect campaign.
In 2004 Karl Rove was at his best. Abortion, gay rights cost the dems dearly. And, Kerry had some baggage that the Republicans used to the max.

Too bad Congress has a lower rating. How bad does this Congress suck when they can't even get a higher approval rating than Bush.

1) He claimed to be a Christian. Not sure if he claimed to be a good Christian.
2) He's a draft dodger, having resigned from the Air National Guard rather than report. No other pilot in the country has ever dared try that. No other politician in the country could laugh it off and make false attacks on an actual soldier. He simply ignored the questions and pretended they were not true. It helps if your friends own the newspapers and news agencies.
Many simply hoped he was honest, and was duped by his play at being a hick, not a millionaire playboy born with a silver spoon from Massachusetts and Maine.

How's your girl Pelosi doing as speaker? Oh...I remember now. Her approval is lower than Bush. I believe it's somewhere near a dismal 14%.

I'm proud to say I knew 8 years go that he would be one of the worst presidents ever. It's just sad that enough people fell for his "good ole boy" personna to allow him into the White House. For some strange reason, many struggling people believe the myth that electing Republicans will make them rich--when the truth is, the exact opposite is true. Every Republican administration has stolen from the middle class to give to corporations, the already-wealthy and the military-industrial complex.
