All depends on your definition of "big" and what city you are in. If they see an inch of snow on the ground in LA, they go running for the hills and ask Congress to declare a state of emergency. But in general, yes, an ice storm will cancel school.

In my experience yes. I lived in central Ohio during their horrible ice storm of 2004. The whole town was "shut down". You were ticketed for being out. Usually if the school thinks there is a safety issue for the children they will cancel school-better safe than sorry.

Not where I live. Unless there is at least a foot and a half of snow on top of a couple inches of ice and well below zero then maybe school will be out. But I have had to go to school in a blizzard before.

hey man, just because it ices outside, doesn't mean school is gonna be canceled. it all depends on where you live. if you live in the south, then you probably won't have school, because the drivers aren't used to the weather. i you live in the north, it would depend on how bad the storm is. from what i can remember, my cousin had to go to school in an ice storm one day. the only reason they canceled school was because semi trucks were sliding backwards on the on ramps trying to get to truck stops. hope this helps ya

well basically the school looks at the safety of people getting to the school, also the staff that can get there and temperature control ability of the schools, the district office will make the decision and surprisingly it sometimes will seem retarded but was more than likely well though out!

so the awnswer to your question is not always or not everytime!

Not always, in MN they really don't unless its really bad. I went to school in total white out conditions, and they didnt even cancel school.
