256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8600M GT or GeForce 7900 GS? Which is better for gaming? Is the only difference the generation?

There is not nearly as much written about laptop graphics card performance as there is desktops, so comparisons like this can be hard. The few benchmarks I have seen have the 7900 GS coming out slightly ahead of the 8600M GT, but not by much. The 8600M GT does have a few advantages, one being that it is DirectX 10, and another being it seems to be easier to find. But to be honest, neither will give you great performance in games, they will both give solid performance, but nothing fantastic.

I would say the 8600M. Yes newer generations have updated tech but they aren't that much different. Generally the letters in the back go from GS - GT - GTX going from good to better respectively. I personally have the 7900 GS and can play just about every game with the highest settings.

How many mb on the 7900? If it is more than 256, then it is the better one. If it is only 256 or less, go with the 8600
