Well, I haven't been in that situation exactly, but similar. It bugs the crap out of me, I'm sitting there cringing the whole time! That's why I want to learn at least the basics of the most spoken languages...

As a Chinese person I can tell you that's not the case. I know we seem to laugh and chat loudly in Cantonese, but that's actually the culture of chinese people - to enjoy each others company as much as possible in public anywhere. Don't let it bother you - chances are they are more concerned about their daughter in laws choice of makeup than you.

It's funny you say that, my local supermarket predominantly has Asian people working in their. They do the same thing.

To your question: most of them can't speak English, what you should do is buy an ear piece and conversate load with a mate while you get your nails done, they'll soon shut up

Not really because I don't care about other people opinions. Just go to a different salon. If it really bothers you just go to the manner of the salon and tell them about it. Most of the time, they DON'T talk about you. They just feel comfortable holding a conversation in their native tongue.

it bothers me most when look at me while they're talking and laughing but then i figure that they can think or say what they want because they don't know me and if they are making fun of me or mocking me then that's just showing ingorance on their part. I say that about all people no matter what language. If you judge people with out knowing them, you're ignorant.

That is exactly Ho I feel...it seems like they are making fun of you or just talking about you. I feel very UNCOMFORTABLE! But if you try to speak another language, they get bothered and insist on knowing what you are saying.

When getting a pedicure and they start laughing, hit your knee, and check your reflexes. Then kick them in the face.

Well, if they have fun.. let them go, don't bother and keep on reading your magazine ;) It's probably harmless IF they are talking about you.. I think they talk their language ALL the time and not only when you walk in :)

I can understand and speak Chinese so that won't be a problem for me. I'd easily understand what they're saying.
