To some extent, all stocks are correlated. This is known as beta. This is because of general interest in owning stocks rising and falling. Some stock indexes actually overlap, i.e. contain some of the same stocks. Some have stocks with similar characteristics, i.e. big, blue-chip companies or a group of speculative, high-tech companies.
